I Gonn' Be Batman!

Jake still says this line when someone asks what he was for Halloween: "I Gonn' Be Batman!"

I know Peepa Jim is counting on these photos to help nurse him along the road to recovery (doing better day by day, thanks for all of your prayers and kind words!), so I'll keep the text to a minimum and let y'all enjoy the pictures!

Jake and his adorable friend (and our next-door neighbor) Gabriella make the cutest Batman and Supergirl!

Grandma Mary Ellen (aka Geedah) came to stay with us for the weekend, and thank goodness she did, because we needed major help on Jake's costume, which was labeled for "1-2 years, weighing 30-40 pounds" Uhm, what? Anyone know a 40-pound 1 year old? With some creative use of scissors, Batman pajama pants, and black electrical tape, Jake's costume turned out just fine. (Thanks mom!)

Geedah was kind enough to pass out candy at our house, so we took Jake trick-or-treating to a few neighbors' houses as the sun went down. I couldn't believe how early some of the little kids showed up at our door! Glad we were home and prepared (for once)!

Back home with Ru, in her Halloween-themed spider skirt. Luckily she hasn't complained about wearing the same costume a few years in a row ;)

We Voted!

History will be made tonight either way. We will have our first African American President or our first female Vice President. I am so proud of our country and pretty sure I will cry tonight either way! :)

So Jake walks into our polling place today with me and he says, much to everyone's amusement: "Where's Barack Obama?"*

We voted today - did you?

*Barack Obama is actually pronounced by Jake as "Bockobama"

Carving Pumpkins

We had a good time carving pumpkins the night before Halloween, even though Jake refused to reach inside the pumpkins and touch any of the goop. But he was okay with scraping the insides out. Jake requested the following Jack-O-Lanterns: one scary one, one happy one, and one big one. ;) Wanna see a flashback to last year?

This pumpkpin seed landed on Jake's head and stayed for a "wittle while."

The scary one....

The happy one....

The big one...

Prayers Needed

My dad (also known around here as "Peepa Jim") is in need of your prayers. He is okay, but he was injured in a motorcycle accident over the weekend.

He has been a motorcycle rider since I was in college (I also got my motorcycle license around the same time), and when the weather was so beautiful on Saturday, there was no doubt in my mind where my dad would be. My mom was in town visiting us for the weekend when she got the call no one ever wants to get. Thank God my dad was able to walk away from the accident with minor injuries, but he is in a fair amount of pain.

A car pulled out in front of him while he was cresting a hill and he broke a bit too hard and the tail end of the bike fishtailed. The bike skidded for quite a distance, as did my father. Thank the Lord he is a responsible rider and always wears protective gear. His full-face helmet has a huge scrape across the front of it. Road rash is no fun (thank God I don't know that firsthand) but I can't imagine what road rash would feel like on your face. And people wonder why I cringe seeing someone wear one of those little helmets that just cover your skull.

My father went to the hospital after the accident and was discharged the same day. He lost a lot of skin on his knees and his foot, he cracked a rib, and needed stitches in his elbow, and banged up both of his wrists pretty bad. He is uncomfortable, but was given medication for the pain and is doing better today than he was yesterday.

I want to again thank God for protecting him from further injury, and ask for prayers for his pain to subside and for him to heal quickly and without complications.

Someone else who is need of prayers is my blog friend Hilary's husband Rich (MckMama's brother in law), who is back in the hospital.
